The district just sent out a notice of the April 15 deadline date for transfer requests. In reality, you can submit a request for a transfer at any time, but consideration for upcoming transfers are not guaranteed for requests submitted after April 15th.
So should you submit a transfer request? If you would like to be informed of upcoming vacancies at other sites, and are open to a transfer should something desirable arise, you should definitely submit a transfer request. This ensures that you will be notified of any open positions but does not obligate you to accept an interview or an assignment if you chose not to.
Almost every year we hear from people who are unhappy that a particular job opened up in the district and was flown externally before they heard about it. If you want to be notified of available jobs in the district, you should definitely have a transfer request on file just in case.
Be aware that you have a right to be interviewed for a position in the district, but are not guaranteed that position simply because you have more seniority than another applicant. However, if you don’t have a transfer request on file, you will not automatically be notified of openings in the district.
You can find the district transfer request form on the district website under Human Resources in the Certificated employees tab.
