Today the LMUTA Bargaining team met with the district team to discuss a partial proposal for a successor agreement to our Collective Bargaining Agreement, which expires on June 30, 2019.
Although we did not settle the contract, we made progress on 3 items:
- The parties mutually agreed to administer an annual survey collaboratively developed between LMUTA and the District regarding professional development activities.
- The parties are in agreement about continuing to provide 130 substitute release days distributed across all school sites so the sped and general ed teachers can attend IEP meeting within the contracted work day.
- The parties worked on language which would allow for K-6 principals to make reasonable efforts to assign students to classrooms such that IEP’s, behaviors, and academic levels will be more equitably distributed.
We still have monetary issues on the table, including salary, a proposal to eliminate one mandatory in-service day (reducing the work year from 184 to 183 days), and a proposal to fund a $500 Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for our bargaining unit members. The items agreed upon above are intended to be part of a comprehensive proposal to be negotiated when we return to the table in the fall.
The bargaining session ended on a sweet note, specifically a cake from the district team to commemorate the retirement of LMUTA President and bargaining team member Donna Kandel.
